I've used fluid acrylics a lot in the past two years, but mostly straight from the bottle, without diluting them. Using them just like transparent watercolors works superbly! Thanks, Nick, for showing us how versatile they are.

It seems that transparent watercolor has a nearly identical twin sister now in the fluid acrylics. Both paints have their own personality, but come out equally as transparent. I would NEVER have thought acrylics could be used this way, ever. The ones I used in college straight from the tube certainly had a plastic, cheap look to them. This is entirely different. Painted on Arches 140# hot press 30 x 22."

I like how much more versatility is at my fingertips by having a choice of which kind of paint to use to do the best job at the moment. Can you tell which part of this painting was done with transparent watercolor and which part with fluid acrylics? Click on 'comments' below and let me know.

Sandy, if fluid acrylics can look this transparent and glowing, I may have to try them! This is luscious :) and I'd just be guessing if I tried to determine what was pure watercolor and what was acrylic.

I can't tell, Sandy. Can you tell when looking at the painting in person? I bought a few of the liquid acrylics a while back, but only played around with them once. I guess I need to investigate them further.

If I didn't think this was a trick question, I'd say that the interior fields of the gingko leaves were watercolor. But maybe you're showing off these great liquid acrylics and the leaves are the acrylics, the tree is mostly watercolor and the background sky is a mixture of both. You'll have to tell us!

By the way, I really like your blogger template. Did you work that up yourself? Did you modify a standard blogger template?

Love your watercolors! I'll be back.

Thanks so much for all the comments. Suzanne, the blog template is one I selected when I signed up. I rearranged some stuff a bit but it's all on the Blog site to start with.

The painting is ALL fluid acrylics, even though most of it looks exactly like transparent watercolor. I love getting that glow with a new medium... so many more options to choose from when we paint!

Thanks for visiting.
