Once in a while, I see this box turtle behind the studio, slowly making her was through the grasses and weeds. This week I'll be slowly making my way, just like this turtle, after another knee replacement --- left knee this time. There are two more Christmas parties for my classes, then surgery early on Thursday morning... one more painting to finish before then, though.Turtle was painted in the late 90's sometime, after she and I had a photo session. The painting's more yellow with more greens and browns than this shows..... headed to the studio for the day;>D before I have to slow down."TURTLE TOTTLE" Transparent Watercolor on 140#CP Fabriano 15 x 9"
We were in a helicopter the first time I saw a real sea turtle swimming in the Pacific below us. Later, watching them glide in an huge aquarium beside the ocean was mesmerizing, and I hoped to capture that magnificent fluid movement with paint. This is a YUPO painting from quite a few years ago, painted as a demo during the opening of an art show. I'm not a very good 'stand around and talk' person at an art show, but I do enjoy talking about the painting process while it's happening. "ANCIENT MARINER" Transparent Watercolor on YUPO 25 x 18"
Several years ago, I tried gouache, aka opaque watercolors, combined with transparent watercolors. FUN! At one time I thought the only way to go was transparent watercolor, but so many new avenues opened up when I became more flexible. Now, whatever it takes to make good art is what I'll pursue. I liked the playfulness of this painting, and it felt like play when I painted it, too."DEEP BLUE SEA" on Arches 140#CP 29 x 20" SOLD
