EARLY WORK

Here's a painting done plein aire in our old backyard in Kokomo. I grew everything possible - hundreds of varieties of perennials and exotic, unusual dwarf plants. We had no deer to eat our garden like we do here, and the soil was not such a hard packed clay.

These windflowers or anemones danced gracefully in the breeze that May day and begged to be painted. I was a fairly new watercolorist and had to touch up a spot or two with white gouache... should've planned ahead better or used miskit.

What a pleasure to remember another pleasure. It's wonderful to see how strong your personality was in this piece. I can recognize the same "you" in this that shines through in recent work.

Been looking around at different watercolor artist sites for inspiration and have stumbled across your blog and really love your work and if this is early work well that goes to show me that art is truly a gift from God.

Wonderful work!!!!

Beautifully done, Sandy. Your early work portends your current mastery!

I am grabbing a few minutes before leaving for "the" wedding to catch up on your blog. I love your beautiful Easter eggs and the egg crew. They are special.

I must consider the workshop you posted. I will research when I have more time.

THANK you ALL for commenting. The painting was done so long ago, but I still have good memories of creating it. Soon, I'll be posting another one done in the studio but similar to this one. The inspiration that comes from working from real life makes a difference as you'll see.

Can hardly believe you say this is an early piece in your watercolour journey - as it has your style stamped all over it right back then, showing light and movement and soft luscious colours together. Beautiful.
