COFFEE BREAK

It's refreshing sometimes to not plan a thing, just paint a picture on impulse. After I made a rough sketch, with more consideration given to the shapes that were sunlit, I painted this quickly. Some paintings really take a long time to complete, but not this one. I like how immediate it feels to me, not fussed with or overworked....my downfall, usually.

The unique sunlit shapes caught my eye and made me want to paint this. I love melding one shape into another without an edge between them, too, and it worked here. Hope you like it too.
Total drawing and painting time - less than a half hour. Go take a coffee break!

Sandy, I really like this - it isn't your usual style or technique but it works so well. It's fresh, soft and dreamy in places, allowing us to fill in the missing pieces from our mind's eye. Love the whites - it really conveys the warmth and the light of the sunlight coming into the room. Is this is new piece or an older one?

Hi Rhonda,
Thanks for checking out the blog. The painting is an older one done impromptu as a class demo to illustrate the point of sure, quick strokes without excess attention to the details of the reference photo. I'm mixing posts of some of my favorite older paintings in with the newer ones This past year was the least productive year I've had in 20 years of painting .... but most productive in growth, I think. I had a major art/paint block for at least 8 months of the year. So glad to have that block dissolved.

Nothing wrong with showing your older work - especially when you've been painting beauties like this for a while :) I wouldn't be showing my older work to anyone unless they really needed a good laugh! There is something very compelling about this piece.

Hey wait a second - coffee's for closers!! Shelley "The Machine" Levine can tell you: A.B.C. - Always Be Closing. But you know that... and this one has been signed on the dotted line, notarized, and deed registered.
Obtuse enough for you? Do some googling.
And great view out the window...how many paintings like this have been spoiled by weak windowalia? Not a single Wyeth, and not this!

Okay Nick,
I'm not driving a Hyundai and only ride in my friend's BMW.... but I have an ocean view timeshare, filled with original artworks FOR SALE in Sanibel, ready to move in.... When can we talk?

And by the way, the artwork will be extra.

Thanks so much for your comments and keeping me laughing.

Wonderful combination between realism and abstract - you have a way with shapes! This is brilliant!
