Wow, you had a great bunch of artists there...every one was successful (much better than my first try with batik!). Good work all around. I, too, have had nothing but problems trying to post a slideshow in the body of the text recently (used to be easy and 1-2-3 it was done, now just get an error message...grrrrr).

Oh Sandy. You must be SO proud that your students could produce that kind of work! I am blown away! I love them all. Porch is my favorite. I so wish I could have been there to see how you presented it and how you inspired the subject matter. That is THE hardest thing for me as a student...to decide what subject matter to bring to a workshop. Did you have some photos there from which they chose? The variety is wonderful! Doing batik in a workshop is amazing with all the drying steps I can't even picture it! Do you bring fans and hang things up?

Hi everyone. SO good to have feedback about their work. I thought it was a really good class. Ginny, we hang our batik from a clothesline with a fan on them unless they're too wax heavy and might tear. Then we lay them flat to dry in front of a fan. Most worked on 2 or 3 at a time. letting some dry while working on others. There was no down time with this group.

Regarding subject matter, number one thing I focus on is to have each artist work from their own photos - no copyrighted pix allowed, since the composition is already in place and it's illegal to copy others photos.

I encourage people to paint what they love. It always shows. And to compose and paint, with the focus on WHY they took the photo, not what the photo actually shows.

More batiks on the next couple of posts....
