PASSION

My passion for the past twenty years has been to create art while discovering all I can about watercolor. Acrylics, Acrylic Inks, Fluid Acrylics, Gouache, Collage, as well as other media, have been tossed into the mix as I journeyed along the art trail.

This painting is an oil, just regular old oil paints. It's just a small study from life which may be turned into a watermedia painting in the future.

The oils were fun to work with - for about a week. Clean up's no fun, though. I'm still in love with what can be said with watermedia. I love the diversity of watermedia, the textures, the ease of use, the challenges, the vibrancy...

Hi Sandy. Thanks for checking in. I appreciate it. I've been out of commission with a virus but am slowly coming back to life. Although I haven't been leaving comments, I've been enjoying your postings — especially love the Waldorf Salad. Passion reminds me of Susan Rothenberg talking about her whites in an interview on Art 21. I'm not sure if it's the colors or the texture but there's something antique (as in Greek or Pompeiian) about this painting. I like it!

Hi Sandy
This is a great composition IMO. I mean, the lovely and artful simplification and division of space into a handful of well-articulated lyrical shapes is masterful IMO. The tonal (i.e. value) work is, to me, like a musical chord, in which there are distinct intervals (values/pitches) that arch across an octave (metaphorically, the 'value spectrum from light to dark'). Colours are exquisite here: understated yet vibrant, warm. Finally, the way you have interconnected the skin tones/colours/shapes, the clothing, the chairs... all these work their magic and charm. I love it.
cheers

PS Your kind comment on my blog I have published but it hasn't yet appeared on my blog (when I checked this a.m. anyway...)! Not sure why. I hope it shows up soon, but if you're wondering why it's not appearing, me thinks Blogger may need a (cough) "coffee" LOL! Thanks so much for your generous comment ..I added you to my links:)

I really like this and it's your values and all that white that makes it sing :) But sure glad you aren't giving up watermedia!!

That's a great design, Sandy!

And yes, there is something irresistible about watermedia, especially watercolors that have a mind of their own, and you just need to flow with them.

Having returned to oils this year after many a year (as opposed to acrylics) , I still feel its so tactile and yummy not only in mixing, spreading and piling on with a knife but also when you view something as creamy, yummable as this lovely tete a tete painting of yours. You could eat the colours. !! Though so different, each media has its own unique wonderful quality - well when you are the creator anyway.

Its me again - Ive had another longer look at the two ladies in coffee and cream, and feel it offers such a narrative. What heart felt secret is the one of the left revealing and why is the one on the right turning away???? A novel can begin ...... if we were writers!!!
