NEW ATELIER ACRYLIC PAINTS!

Finally, the brush made it to my hand and into some glorious new paint! It's been nearly two months since I painted anything at all - long, long time for me, but a 'bug' kept me under the weather and not caring if I painted. Then a box of new paints arrived at the studio with some gorgeous colors made in Australia by Chroma, Inc.

This painting is the first of what will be many acrylic paintings on YUPO using these Atelier Interactive Professional Artists' Acrylics. The acrylics behave like regular acrylic, but can be blended MUCH easier, even after they get dry! They can be re moistened with ease.
This painting is a result of forty five minutes of experimenting to see what would happen. The paint can be applied thickly like oil or very thinly like watercolor washes. The dozen colors that I have are mostly transparent, so glazing added a luscious look to those colors. I can't wait to share these new paints with my classes and see what beautiful paintings they create.
Though this isn't a 'real' painting, (no planning, etc. just impulse and delight,) it was so much fun to play and experiment. There are several unique mediums from the order that I must try next with the paints. Check out their website at http://www.chromaonline.com/.

Nice to see you back painting, Sandy. I have only tried the Ultramarine Blue and really liked how it worked. Looking forward to seeing more from you soon.

Sandy, sorry to hear you were under the weather. Judging by the colors you selected, you are feeling better!

I know how you felt, I have that crud now and don't feel like painting either. Not enough energy.
I have some small samples of those paints but haven't tried them yet. They look like fun.

I am glad you are back o painting :) I too have been under the spell of big bad flu and have not started painting yet -only a sketch here and there. Hope my comeback will be half as good as yours!

Hi Sandy - sorry for mixup on my blog latest post comment. I was introduced to Atelier Active paints last year and bought a set when they were on special offer. Great for taking out and about. Although I never understood why so many people said acrylics dried too easily, as I use my own version of a stay wet palette and flow medium, so never had any trouble. .. but I can see the joy of using them on YUPO. I also think the Liquitex jars I buy are softer than other manufacturers' tubes.
So glad you are feeling better and the bright colours you have chosen must surely brighten your days.

Two months without painting? I'd have to be dead!! Glad you're back in the groove. And yes, this is a "real" painting - good design, great colors and visual interest in textures and lines and...well, very much real! Today, there were two pilated woodpeckers on my deck eating at my suet feeders - what a joy to see those huge crazy birds (and a pair means maybe...babies in the spring??)

Glad you are feeling better and painting again. Thanks for sharing your discoveries with acrylics. I am basiclaly a watercolorist but I keep trying to use acrylics and can't decide if I like them - may have to order some of these and give them a try!

I got some great colours when I went to Australia too. They've got some stunning watercolours, oil and acrylics with great names such as Australian red, or Australian green or Tasmanian blue ... and the colours are truly special! It's good to know that the colours you mention can be ordered because going all the way to Australia just to buy paint seems a little... well you know.
Sorry to hear you were not so well; and glad to see you've taken your brushes again and having fun.

I don't know what you call a real painting. As a predominantly abstract painter, I love the spontaneous feeling of this piece. I definitely call it a painting!Bravo!
