ALL YUPO

Almost all my YUPO paintings are collected in one post here, together. They are more or less in chronological order, starting with the most recent all the way back to the ancient ones.

After they were time line organized, it was interesting to see the changes in color use, technique, and style. It's pretty obvious to see just when experimenting and trying new things happened. Almost two years ago, I was able to take a great workshop taught by YUPO master, George James, but before that, I was on my own to figure out ways of managing paint on this fantastically slick surface. Many times, the paint managed me instead.

Some are a lot better than others for sure, and the look of the most recent YUPOs - the 3 bird pictures - isn't one that I will stay with. Nevertheless, painting on this slick plastic is soooooooo much fun... brings out the six year old in me. Several of these have even won some nice awards.

A half a dozen of my YUPO paintings were never photographed - no record of them but in my memory. During my ten year span of painting on YUPO, there was about a two year time lapse when I did not even paint on YUPO at all. What was I thinking?

Almost all of these were painted with transparent watercolors, but a couple have gouache and regular acrylics on them too, even some acrylic ink. There are several recent ones which have been created using fluid acrylics to look like watercolor. Fluid acrylics and YUPO are my FAVORITE materials to make art with right now.

Two more YUPO paintings are in progress, to be posted when they are completed. One is a watercolor, and the other, a 26 x 40" sheet, is being painted, ever so slowly, with fluid acrylics. If you're an artist who likes to take workshops, check out the January YUPO workshop I'm offering - coming up the weekend before the Super Bowl - see the side bar on the right.

THE End of Sandy's YUPO paintings from the late '90's to 2009. Many more to come in the future!

Sandi...What an impressive body of work! I knew you had mastered painting on Yupo, but to be so prolific, also, is amazing to me. I'm dragging out the Yupo today to start a painting...I just have to after seeing these!

Hi Sandy - thank you so much for stopping by my blog and leaving such a lovely comment :-)
Your Yupo work is incredible!!! It is a surface I have never tried, but clearly you have mastered it.
Funny coincidence (I am from Cincy originally), I looked at the people on your sidebar and I am *related* to Gene & Lois Schaich. They are cousins of my Mom. The circle of life, huh?

Oh my gosh, if we keep digging for connections we are likely to find out that *we* are related, tee, hee.

Did you know that Lois takes classes from me - and she and Gene were two of the first people I met when we moved here 15 years ago! Such a small world. I have a cousin who lives i Missouri, too. I would nearly describe Lois similar to your unique description of running with scissors... She's a lot of fun and a very good friend.

So it's true you are the yupo queen! I'm amazed, in awe, delighted to see all these together, BTW good luck with your knee intervention! :)

You haven't asked anyone to choose a favorite, but the temptation is too hard to resist. If you number them from top (newest) to bottom, I love #5 (Venice scene). I have always thought #24 (craggy cliffs) was one of your absolute best. I also like #33 (bottles, jugs?) and #35 (Italian steps). Both of your Xmas ornament pix are super too, as is the "older" Bird of Paradise.

Quite a body of work!! Best of luck with the surgery and call me ANYTIME!

Wow! These are all just fabulous. I tried Yupo for the first time this year, and haven't had time to play around with it, but I thought it was great fun the way the paint just sort of oozes around. I love the effects you got in these. They're wonderful.

What a treat to see so many of your wonderful paintings, Sandy!! If I had to choose, Steps and Spires and Grateful would be my top picks -- they just jump out at me. But all of the paintings are just fabulous!!

My favorite has always been "The Quilt" by the window with blue curtains. WHAT a gorgeous painting. It calms me and stills my soul. I want to lay down on the quilt. Great work...

Thanks for the comments, you all, (as we say here near Kentucky.) Joan, YUPO is difficult at first, then MUCH easier to do that regular watercolor 'cause you can 'erase' mistakes. Hope you all have a good weekend.
